First Baptist Church of Florence is located approximately 30 minutes south of Jackson, Mississippi. This church approached Elite Multimedia, Inc. (Elite) after receiving a positive referral from another Mississippi based church which has been a long time customer of Elite. Elite met with the worship minister and audio technician to discuss the church’s needs from their audio system. The church’s original sound system consisted of a small number of mid range boxes and far/near horns. Unfortunately, this system only partially covered the main floor and provided very little to the balcony space. After extensive discussions two options were considered. The first system was a conventional box system with delays for the balcony and the second system was a line array system. Given the location of the baptistry and video screen, Elite recommended the conventional approach so that the sight lines were not disturbed. Elite installed two main speaker arrays with front fills, which included four main speakers and two subwoofers, to cover the main seating area and an additional nine delay speakers installed along the balcony. Along with the new speakers, Elite provided and installed new amplifiers and digital system processor, replaced the choir monitors and supplemented the system with additional stage fill monitors. Elite also provided network connectivity to the digital processor and created a user interface which provides the church control over the different speaker zones for testing and allows them to mute selected speakers when the balcony is not in use.
